The National Institute for Standards and Metrology of the Kyrgyz Republic "Kyrgyzstandard" (NISM) is an official body, it has the status of a national body on standardization and measurement assurance. Kyrgyzstandard is an assignee of the State Inspection for Standardization and Metrology under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, except for the rights and responsibilities following from functions on the state supervision over observance of technical regulations and standards. History in brief Roots of standardization in the Kyrgyz land go back to many centuries. Archeological and historical researches show that basics of the standardization were used over 2000 years ago in the constructions, cloth fabrication, in trade and households. The Great Silk Road running through the Kyrgyzstan in ancient times made its reflection upon the development of the state. Creation of the national system of standardization and measurement assurance dates back to the establishment of the division of the Chamber of measures and weights in 1927. 1927 - Division of the Chamber of measures and weights; 1931 - Chamber of measures and weights; 1953 - Department of the Main Chamber of measures and gauging equipment; 1971 - Republican department of the State Standard Agency; 1982 - Kyrgyz Center of Standardization and Metrology; 1992 - State Agency of Standardization and Metrology; 1994 - State Inspection for standardization and metrology under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzstandard); 2001 - reorganization of the system of Kyrgyzstandard and reform in the area of the state regulation of the quality of products and services through application of forms and methods of standardization, metrology, certification and accreditation based upon internationally accepted practices; 2004 - National institute for standards and metrology of the Kyrgyz Republic.
